Cornell Alumna Sarah Spain Triumphs in Sports Media

Sarah Spain ’02, a Cornell University College of Arts and Sciences alumna, has combined her athletic background with journalism to build an award-winning career in sports media. A native of Chicago who grew up playing sports, Spain served as captain of the Big Red track and field team at Cornell, specializing in the heptathlon—a seven-event competition that includes hurdles, high jump, shot put, sprinting, long jump, javelin throw, and an 800-meter run.

After her athletic career, Spain transitioned to sports journalism and now works at ESPN as a writer, TV panelist, radio host, and podcast host. She has spent more than 15 years addressing a range of topics in sports, from lighter subjects like NFL policies to serious issues regarding female athletes' attire. In addition, Spain hosts the first-ever daily podcast focused on women’s athletics and recently published her first book.
