Erie County 4-H Program Raises $426K

In Erie County, the 4-H Livestock Program raised $426,565 by teaching youth about animal husbandry, budgeting, marketing, and community connections. Organized by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Erie County, the program gives participants hands-on experience by having them raise and sell animals at auction.

One participant, 16-year-old Leslie Mesch, raised and sold both a steer and a hog at the auction. She credits her experience in the program for preparing her for college and the workforce. The funds raised not only support the continuation of the program but also help pay for college tuition or provide seed money for starting business ventures.

The program is a summer tradition for many families throughout Erie County.
