Cornell Unveils High-Yield LakeEffect Winter Barley
Cornell University has introduced LakeEffect, a new winter malting barley. The variety is noted for its high yields, disease resistance, and desirable malting profile. These characteristics are expected to benefit farmers, brewers, and distillers in New York’s craft beverage industry. LakeEffect was developed by the Cornell Small Grains Breeding Program, and the first commercial crops are scheduled for release in 2026.
